We built a table!

We built a table!

One of the words in that title may be a little misleading.. there was building, and it is a table.. but it wasn’t so much we as it was he. Let me explain.. A while back, a friend of ours gave us a large island counter top she had leftover when she had granite installed in her kitchen. Score! – right? Or not? What do you do with a large counter top? We decided it would make a perfect table top for a new outdoor table. My husband, Sergio, is a great DIYer and he loves building things. I have a great imagination and I love planning things (so yes, we are basically a perfect couple!) He told me he wanted me to go with him to buy wood to build the table base. We didn’t have a plan for the table and I don’t even think I had seen the counter top yet, so when we go to the home improvement store, I wasn’t sure what we were buying. I had no concept of the table he was planning to build. That didn’t stop him from asking me how much wood we needed, did we need to get 2x4s or 4x4s and what kind of wood I thought would work best.   I still didn’t get exactly what he was thinking – so, he pulled up a picture on his phone of a rolling kitchen island with tapered legs, two shelves and some drawers. Then I was even more confused because nothing about the picture he showed me had anything to do with the wood he was picking...
Hi. I am ADD for DIY. What does that mean? I crave starting new projects. I see projects that I like, and before I finish them, or sometimes even start them, I’m on to another idea or plan. What causes these constant changes of direction? Sometimes I psych myself out of something before I even start with thoughts like I could never get it that perfect or I’m not that talented other times, I start the project then realize I underestimated the amount of time or attention to detail it would take to achieve the standards I want. And sometimes, I really do just get bored or distracted and move on to something else. So, this website is about my journey of improvement. Improving my own skills (and hopefully yours), improving my completion rate by having someone to show my stuff to, improving “things” in order to make them more aesthetically pleasing and creating opportunities for all of us to look back and see how far we’ve come. I’m all about DIY and re-fashioning. I love aesthetic entertaining and I’m recommitting myself to “going for it!” If I want to make it, have it, try it… I will! Are you a curious, DIY beginner like me? Are you creative, upbeat, chic yet still frugal? Then this site is for you! Check out my favorite recent projects!
